About Us

The Centre For Eye Genetics And Research Aims to Help Patients With Retinal Degenerative Diseases

Over fifteen lakh people suffer from degenerative diseases of the retina (the nerve layer of the eye). These include conditions like Retinitis Pigmentosa, Stargardt macular degeneration, Leber Congenital Amaurosis etc. Most of these diseases are progressive and incurable currently.

Such patients need a significant amount of time with doctors that include counseling and support. Given the overcrowded outpatient departments of most large eye hospitals in India, it is hard for eye specialists to give adequate time to these patients.

CEGR aims to fill in this gap for patients with degenerative diseases of the retina.
